Stock Description: Here we have a selection of cows from a herd dispersal due to retirement, a blend of breeds; Shorthorn, Norwegian Red, Holstein Friesian and Normande. The result is a very durable medium size cow that has strength and dairy character. This group consists of all the cows calving from now until November. All in calf to Wagu apart from 4 cows; 2 A Angus and 2 in calf to sexed Normande. The due dates are as follows; 1 fresh calved, Apr-2, May-6 ,Jun-4, Aug-5, Sep-7, Oct-2 and Nov-6. The cows are currently averaging 20 litres on average bale silage and concentrate, production would be expected to increase on turn out.
Production Capacity: The herd performs very well on a simple system. Grazing in summer big bales and out of parlour feed in winter (cubicle housed). Last years production was very respectable @7750 litres, 4.5% fat and 3.2% pro. Production and solids would increase on a more intensive system, these cows have not been pushed at all.
Age & Lactation: The cows are predominately young lac 2 = 8, lac 3 = 14, lac 4 = 8, lac 5 = 1 and lac 6 = 2. The cows are very correct with well attached udders and good feet and legs.
Health Status: The herd has not had any TB issues for 10+ yrs, regular Johnes testing with no red cows in the group. No vaccinations given but tested regularly by milk samples.
